I was frequently asked about tours in Beijing, where to visit, where to stay, traffic, weather,etc.

So I summerize here most of the question and answers and list them here, I hope this could give you more ease for your tour in beijing.

Mutianyu is more popular for overseas tourists, with calble car and tobagen, better facilities, bathroom is cleaner, 1.5 hours  one way drive from city.

Badaling is more easy access by public transport, with more locals and more crowded, 1.5-2.5 hours driving depends on traffic.

Simatai / Jinshanling section is far away from the city, double the distance compare with the aboves, but you can see more original and unretored parts of the great wall.

Jiankou is ideal for hikers, totaly wild, hard to climb and danger, 2+ hours on road time one way from city, with breathtaking view.

3. layover tour & how to get 72 hour visa free transit

It takes one hour drive one way from airport to mutianyu section of the great wall, and same time back, then if you  have 5 hours, you can do it.

To get the free transit, when you come to the custom, look for special lane/special desk, the specific language on a sign by the lane says:

International transfer passengers of the following situations are asked to go through this lane:

1. Check in luggages

2. Check in for the next flight

3. Temporarily leave the restricted area

There will be someone staff the desk from 6am.
